The 2nd Annual Run for Recovery 5K, the annual fundraiser for our nonprofit agency, experienced tremendous growth in 2010! We more than doubled our turnout in terms of participants, sponsors and dollars raised!

Thanks to the efforts of our volunteers, staff, board members and local community partners, we were able to raise $7,000 for the prevention services offered by our agency. We added staff to provide additional hours in the local schools as a result of the 2010 event. More children and youth were able to benefit from the important work our prevention staff provides.

The pictures on our website will reflect the tremendous turnout, the great weather, the outstanding food and the festive atmosphere of the day. We could not have asked for better weather and the overwhelming support. We were a little unprepared for the huge numbers of same-day registrations and ran out of T-shirts and some refreshments. We will learn from our mistakes!

The 3rd Annual run for Recovery 5K is scheduled for Saturday, July 2, 2011 @ 9:00 am in Duke Park, Troy. We were requested to move the race earlier in the summer by high school students who pledged to support the event. We are hoping they show up in large numbers, organized as teams from their respective schools. We are again partnering with Speedy Feet for excellent race organization, Panera Bread for post-race bagels, and the FOP Lodge #58 for grilling the hamburgers and hot dogs! We had hundreds of dollars worth of door prizes donated last year, and 78 individuals walked away with a prize. We will again seek to set ourselves apart from other 5K’s by creating a first-class experience for all involved. That is our annual goal.

Watch our website (www.mcrcinc.org) for race registration information and updates. Please consider supporting our local sponsors as you are able. Our photos from the 2010 event are worth a look. Mark your calendar and help promote recovery by joining us on July 2nd @ Duke Park in Troy!
